hey there everyone. just like the rest of you i love gaming. And i cant right now because of this problem, so any help would be very well appreciated.
i have: I5-2500k cpu
4gb gtx 680
8gb Patriot memory (2x4gb sticks)
800 watt silent pro psu
Asus P8P67LE motherboard

this all started with an overclock that took my computer to a blue screen. i used the Asus AI SUITE to overclock the cpu automatically. Then the blue screen appeared as it was ramping up.. Now windows runs for a while but it will freeze not long after running.. this was while i was downloading games.

thank you for the response.. I clicked the default settings tab in the bios but later i noticed the target cpu speed was still 3700mhz. Only by removing the cmos battery did it change back to the default of 3300 mhz. i will try and restore asus suite to default and see what happens. i have tried quite a few things.

I found my dlink wireless card's software was corrupt. So uninstalled it and removed it from the computer. I also got a new hardrive and did a clean install of windows 7. Before windows was freezing and before i replaced the hardrive windows wouldnt even start.. i noticed that the bios setting for the hardisk was set to ACHI and it was disabled. I changed it to IDE and it became detected by the bios.

I will check asus suite tonight. One problem i have with that is whenever i run the Asus Suite software and check for updates, nothing comes up. Currently my version is Revision 1003. Is there a way i can update this? Should i bother? All of my other drivers are up to date.

thanks. i will try that! By pen drive you mean a usb flash drive right? sorry if i sound ignorant. I never heard it called a pen drive before. So i just extract the files after i download them from the asus site and drag them into the flash drive?

i will try it tonight.. I hate working second shift.. Wish i could try this now.. Its kind of weird, the computer has been running with that version for a while. my fear was that the cpu was bad since this happened after an overclock.

just using asus suite I was able to overclock the cpu from 3.3mhz to 4.1mhz with no problem. also with the stock heatsink as well. That was probably a dumba** move though.. Can you recommend a good cpu heatsink? I have artic silver 5 thermal paste in my stash with my other computer gear. I bought a cooler master heatsink before but one of the pins was broken and i didnt notice it until i checked my cpu temps one day and it was high as hell.. not buying another one of those.

USB flash drive, correct will work perfectly. cpu cooler depends on room & socket:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118099
Everybody seems to love this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018
At that point I would go here:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181032
