Help! My computer has suddenly decided that it no longer wants to connect to the internet. I have verified that my router, modem and cable are good. I reinstalled the driver, nothing. Tried a USB network adapter, nothing. My computer is only just over a year old and the warranty is up. I don't know what else to do?

P.S - I am running Windows 7

I have run the troubleshooter and all I get is that there might be a problem with the local area connection adapter with no details or solutions. All the virus scans come up empty, I dug out my old laptop and tested the connection with the new usb adapter, everything works fine including the wireless.

There are no error messages in the device manager for the new adapter. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and still nothing. I have never seen anything like this, even when I called tech support from the manufacturer they had no idea. Best guess was the motherboard was on it's way out, which makes no sense to me

Maybe, but doesn't seem likely. The NIC on my S939 A8R-MVP died on me. But I put a NIC in a PCI slot and carried on. If the USB ports work then the new one should have worked. More so if it worked on a different computer. Virus stopping network traffic is the only thing i can think of. But you said it was clean. Perhaps someone else has a better idea.

Nothing. I got back "the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation" According to the device manager the new usb adapter is working fine, but something keeps forgetting to tell the rest of the computer that.
