i-3 over clocking

while possible, OCing an i3 is not recommended, unless you're an OCing enthusiast and are trying to prove yourself.

unlike the i5-2500K/3570k or an i7-2600k/2700k/3770k (see a pattern there?), you're limited to messing with the base clock instead of the multiplier. this in turn greatly affects system stability.

so if you simply care about face value, by all means. but if you want a stable and working system, you're either left getting a Z77/Z68 board with an OCable i5/i7, or stick with what you have.

don't mess with BCLK, At best you'll get a 5% boost which is imperceptible in real world use. At worst you'll fry you hardware or corrupt your date.

You can overclock Turbo by 400Mhz, which is fairly noticeable and safe with any upgraded cooler.

I can't think of how you'd use Voltage to overclock, so question is probably irrelevant.

you can only overclock the BCLK (intel equivalent of the FSB, though it is a bit more then just the fsb), as the i3-2100 does not have a turbo mode to overclock (to overclock the turbo mode your cpu must support turbo 2.0, the i3-2100 does not)

the BCLK will adjust the speeds of everything, from the ram, to the pci-e to the SATA ports. So you're very limited on this type of overclock. maybe only to a +4 or +6 on it. after that you'll start to break your computer.

Just to add, this is only sandybridge and newer i3s. The older i3s overclock fantastically.

I have a mATX secondary pc with a i3 540 overclocked to 4.3Ghz easily which is a good performance boost.

Still not going to make much of a difference. you could get a $400+ Z77 High End ASUS Maximus V, or whatever it's called nowadays, paired with that i3, and you're still going to see system instability when you mess around with the BCLK. as long as it's not an intel K processor like the 3570K, 2500K, 3770K, etc., matched with a Z77, Z68, or Z75 motherboard, you're much better off not overclocking if you care about a working PC.
