Not going to happen buddy, sorry. An all in one liquid solution can do 4.5ghz. Anything higher requires a custom cooling loop or phase.

yeah, that'll over cook it, alright.

i've seen people OCing it as high as 4.7-4.8 stable with air, but it takes a whole lot of luck to get such a chip. it'll take a miracle chip to OC it as high as 5.0 with air or an efficient custom water cooling rig. or liquid nitrogen.

and that's not considering the quality of your motherboard. the Extreme4 is a nice board for the price for a decent OC, but i reckon you'll need a much better board with better quality components to OC it that high stable.

aim lower if that sounds like a pain. MUCH lower. 4.2-4.3 is a nice OC on it's own. 4.5 or so stable at ~50-60C is a proud achievement. 5.0ghz, and we'll proudly proclaim you "The Chosen One".

5.0ghz on air would be godly.

Most likely not.
All the same points as Hazle. There's no guarantee your chip can even hit that speed, if it could you would need a beastly cooling setup to run it and the motherboard while fine for mid-range overclocking isn't good for extreme clocks.

Aim a bit lower to ~4.2Ghz, no real need to go faster than that anyway IMO.

4.4 to 4.5 max with that cooler on that chip.

I've done 5 GHz on air with VenomousX, with a lame thermal paste, and no IHS removal.

And I ran Intel cineBENCH on 4,9GHz

I got lazy and never did the 5GHz cineBENCH run. Also I booted 5,1GHz but I was very tired and did not took cpuz proof. One day, when I'll remove IHS and get a proper thermal paste, I'll play with it some more.

Daily use: 4,5GHz, AIR: VenomousX + 2 very quiyet Noctua 14cm fans, lowest rpm. I got decent temps too.

Do not underestimate Ivy Bridge for one second! It can overclock BETTER then Sandy, but IF and only IF you remove IHS.
