Recommend graphics for my new build

Hi,

I used to love my PC gaming, back when ATI Radeon 9500 Pro cards where awesome then onto the Geforce 4 series, but for the last 4 or 5 years I've been a console man.

With the plans for the next gen consoles being a bit of a concern (possibly always on, sony charging for online gaming, second hand market going down, and backwards compatibility a no go) I have decided I am going back to PC. Consoles cannot come close to Steam for gaming value.

Anyway, my new build is not bleeding edge, but I think it is quite decent, and was hoping you guys can bring me back into the loop regarding PC graphics.
Questions -
Do ATI still own Nvidia on price/performance, or have Nvidia closed the gap.
What are ATI drivers like now (a few years ago it was ATI with hardware, but Nvidia made much more reliable drivers, although admittedly I always got custom drivers anyway)?
Is future SLI/Xfire support something worth bearing in mind when buying? My thoughts being I could get a decent card now, then in a few years rather than getting a new one again, I can get a second one for dirt cheap and keep with the new games.

The build is
AMD Phenom II x4 965 CPU
8GB Corsair 1600Mhz RAM
Asus M5A99X Evo 2.0 Motherboard (with SLI/Xfire capabilities)
Seasonic 520W PSU

I have a monitor running at 1440x900, but also intend to hook this PC up to my 3D TV in full HD. I want to be able to run, as a guide, Battlefield 3 and any other modern games in max at 1920*1080, with the exception of Crysis 3 perhaps, which I accept needs a ridiculous beast.

Solution
allright, then its up to two choices, the GTX 660 or the HD 7850, both are very good cards, the GTX 660 should be a bit faster and a bit costlier, you cant go wrong with any of the two

First off, your CPU will actually bottleneck current high end cards at 1080p res but it should be fine at 1440*900, secondly, 3D requires a 120hz refresh rate, so you'll probably need a dual GPU set up - My advice is get a new CPU+Mobo+GPU setup, which we will advice on provided you give us a rough estimate of your budget, and to answer your questions
1. ATI still owns the Price/Performance
2. ATI Drivers are pretty mature now and very good
3. Multi GPU Scaling works better with Nvidia Cards, that being said, AMD cards in CFX are more powerful if you compare 680 in SLI and 7970 Ghz in CFX if you can live with the micro stutter usually found in CFX setups

Getting new CPU/Mobo currently isn't really an option. After researching a bit in this area, the CPU/Mobo combination I've just purchased seemed the best for price. I didn't here good things about the AMD Bulldozer chips.

Budget for card is maximum £150 at this stage. The wife is already a bit peeved ;)
