Soooo, the built-in audio or soundcard in my motherboard is broken so I need to get a soundcard. I'm thinking of Asus Xonar, but it's sooo expensive!!! D:
I don't need high-end audio or diamond coated soundcard, just something cheap from a good brand that will last me a long time.

Currently, I'm using a gaming headset with a USB plug but I still prefer using speakers.

Thanks in advance!! :D

I would advise you to just buy a new motherboard with a built-in sound card.

All non built-in sound cards do is create more problems than they solve and the sound quality doesn't improve one bit.

I've purchased a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy a long time ago, most games couldn't detect it and would crash.

Now, this card is stored in my closet somewhere inside a box and forgotten for ever.

Depends on your budget, i use a Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme audio and has a very nice sound.
But one needs to make sure you change the sample and bit rate to notice improvement over a build in card.
Really cheap cards will not make a difference so keeping your build in audio.
Your case it is broken and i do not know what price tag comes with your current mobo.

For sound cards i defiantly recommend Creative for that component.

Changing resolution/bit rate to 24-bit 96KHz would not do much because CD standard is 16 bit, 44.1 Khz, DVD- 24/48 KHz. No game soundtrack designers would leave their sounds at 24/96. Soundblaster is what I been finding on all my PCs and they all sounded bad (compered to pro-level soundcards). Also consider 5.1 or 7.1 option, if you will use KVM switch in the future and what speakers you plan to use.

That is a nice card indeed, if you got the budget yes that would be a sweet card if not(like me at the time) get the SB X-Fi Xtreme version.
Spend what you want to spend there might be some more features but the sound will roughly be the same.
And make sure you get a card with the right PCIe slot, some might have different version to go with different PCIe slots.

NP enjoy your new sound i'd say :)
p.s. make sure your headphone and/or speakers make use of your sound card features(doubly/5.1 sound etc etc)
Or you might buy a good card but your audio output ends up being the same as a build-in audio chip.
