I am building a pc, I have a budget of around $800 for the graphics card. This is enough to buy two hd7970s and put them in Xfire, but is the Xfire worth the extra 400 I would pay for the second graphics card? I am looking for an amd card as I plan on playing some games in 3D, and to play nvidia in 3D you need $150 glasses. So, should I get 2x7970, wait for 7990 price drop, or just save some money and get 1x 7970. I plan on playing games like crysis 3 at 50-80 fps min on max settings possible.

If you are looking to use 3D then you absolutely do not want to use AMD. The AMD software is completely useless, it is not supported in any way shape or form and does not have profiles for newer games. You can count the games it works with on one hand. Whilst Nvidia are far from bending over backwards for 3D it is actually supported to some extent. The driver for it is simply better, having a much lower performance hit and the access to community based fixes. I cannot tell you how important that is, there are probably more games playable because of this http://helixmod.blogspot.co.uk/, than actually work without fixes. Even simple stuff like binding convergence to buttons cannot be done on an AMD platform, just don't bother with it.

Not bashing AMD at all, personally believe their cards to be far better. But Nvidia has them far trumped for 3D. Either go with a stronger AMD system and forget 3D even exists, or take the compromise and have 3D with Nvidia.
