every time i turn my laptop on the screen shows startup repair or start windows normally options.

if i enter startup repair it shows loading files and as soon as the bar is fully completed then the laptop switches off.

if i enter start windows normally the it shows the windows 7 "starting windows" screen followed by a disk check that gets automatically cancelled, stays on that screen for a few seconds and then switches off again.

And sometimes the laptop switches off while it shows the windows 7 "starting windows" screen.

i have a dell inspiron n5010 thats about 2 years old.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try to get to Safe Mode, F8 at start up, might be F10 or other, it displays which key at boot up.
Get to desktop wait for the cursor to stop spinning then do a clean shut down (not restart) don't do anything else.
Wait for 3 or more minutes (no less) then power on as normal.

The actualy problem may be a faulting hdd, it is most common in laptops that are used for extreme usage (like gaming or making movies or programming) rather than just browsing the internet or basic Office apps. A laptop hdd rarely lasts more than a few years if you are lucky when its used for extreme usage otherwise, you could get more than 5 years from it with light apps.
