^The Phenom II X4 965 is actually better than the FX-4100 :p. Its a real quad core while the FX-4100 uses two Bulldozer modules, which are like a core and a half.
gets complex, but of the two the Phenom is the better choice. Though compare it too an FX-4300 and you have a much tighter competition.

Agree on the 550W PSU comments, the dual 6/8pin connectors will give you a much better upgrade path than that 430W with its single 6/8pin connector, which effectively limits you to a maximum of a 7850.

Any reason you are going with that CPU? The FX series would be a better choice in my opinion. The FX-4100 is essentially the same price.

I would get the Hyper 212 EVO instead, its better than the 212+.

I would consider a 500 watt power supply at least. 430, while enough, does not support much upgrade capability. XFX, SeaSonic, and Corsair are good brands and it would be worth getting a little more wattage.

Cool, I'll grab the CX500 instead of the 430 then. And is there really any benefit in getting the FX-4300? I was under the impression that it was relatively the same performance as the Phenom II (and even though its a quad core it only has 2 physical cores, right?). It also costs like $35 more. I'm going to mainly be using this comp for gaming and school work, no video editing or anything so would it be worth it as far as gaming performance goes?

AMD with its Bulldozer architecture did something a bit different when it came to cores. Traditionally a core is made of a processing unit with a dedicated memory cache attached to it. AMD with the Bulldozer modules (and Piledriver is the same) took two processing units and gave them a single (if larger) cache, and labeled it a "Dual core". This new architecture is great for multi-threaded performance as the memory cache is shared, but impacted on single threaded performance in a big way.
An FX-4100 has two BUlldozer modules in it, so its a "Quad Core" if you consider a Bulldozer module as two cores, which it kind of isnt.
The Phenom II X4's used the traditional core, and is a proper Quad Core.

AMD have made up in performance with their Piledriver architecture, which is essentially a tweaked Bulldozer.
