It will be a Core2Quad Q9650/9550/9400 what ever you can get, but i doubt they are still on sale.. try and find a good cheap used one. but if you are gonna upgrade, why not upgrade your whole system - CPU+Mobo+Ram+PSU, i know it will be costly but you will not regret it

I agree with notea as well. My Q9550 still rocks but I have moved on as well and will convert it to a media/server. It looks like you really want to stay with LGA775, best bet would be to look around for a used one. Might find one still in the box on ebay, but doubtful. I have seen some run for more than I orginally paid.

Here is a link to show the difference between your chip and a q9950

I've been down this road of trying to find a powerful C2Q and you don't want to go there. You will likely pay more than it cost to get a z77 board and an i3 3220/3225 (z77 so you can move to an unlocked processor later).

Just sell the old parts on craigslist (if you're in the US) for a reasonable price and put the money towards a new motherboard/CPU/RAM. You won't regret it. I have two setups running i3/z77/8GB RAM/7850's and they run well.

the Gaming series from MSI - Z77-GD65 Gaming uses a Killer E2200 Ethernet which claims to be faster than a normal ethernet by giving more importance to gaming traffic on your network, other than that i dont see any difference between a normal GD65 and the Gaming version, if you plan on getting a core i3/i5/i7 - non K, a H75 Chipset will be more than enough, and you need only 8GB ram max for gaming, only add more if you plan to do some video editing

well, if you are not going to overclock the processor, you dont need a z77 chipset and a good h75 chipset will do, and i didnt see that you are planning to buy the i5 3570k, so go for the Z77 Motherboard, as for the M-power and the GD 65, you will not find any difference in performance, just buy whichever you like better, and as for the 8GB of ram, current generation of PC games doesnt even utilize 4GB, maybe in a year or two, they may require 8GB, just maybe... im just saying that you dont need 12GB of RAM (idk how many ram stick you plan to use 4GB x3?? - dont recommend it as it wont run in dual channel), if you really want a huge amount of RAM - go with 16GB - 4GBx4 or 8GBx2

And the K series processors come in i5 and i7, they have unlocked multipliers and can be overclocked with ease, the non K CPUs cant be overclocked as their multipliers are locked, except for the turbo boost feature
