Hello, Id like to overclock my NVIDIA GT 640M GDDR5 graphics card but am curious as to if there are complications with the way mine is set up. I have a Dell XPS One 27 with an i7 and as you already probably know its an all-in-one PC. Most of the articles here seem oriented to cards that are removable or standard in a PC. Can I overclock my graphics and were do I go to get started if so!

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Dear sir I advise you to NOT overclock a laptop card because it doesn't have proper cooling and you'll run into trouble. Unless Dell has provided a program to do so.

Overclocking voids you warranty

you can download a program like msi afterburner or something similar to overclock it. i dont know what to overclock it to because i have never tried it with that chip, but you will probably find someone on here or by searching google that has done it before and documented it

do not overclock a laptop gpu.

heck you really shouldn't overclock a laptop cpu much either. it can be done, its just inadvisable. The cooling systems in these computers are just barely good enough for day to day use. and their batteries are pretty sensitive to that type of abuse. you run the serious risk of causing real damage to your laptop.

This isn't a desktop with a robust power supply, power regulating mb, and efficient cooling system.

I overclocked a 640m on my samsung series 7 laptop to about 850mhz and the temperature is around 75-77 degrees max when GPU usage is 90-100%. Gave me some boost when playing graphic intensive games. A lot of people overclock laptop gpu these days, but make sure to monitor your CPU and GPU temp once in a while. When you experience performance problems don't raise it too high. My GPU core clock was 709mhz when it arrived, so I raised it by 135mhz which is the maximum amount I believe for 640m. Make sure you update your graphics driver to 320.18.
