Could I overclock an i3 3220 to a multiplier of 37 and a blck of 125? Or is it totally locked down. Would it get too hot?

Solution

the multiplier is locked, the blck shouldn't be increased more then +4 or +6, any more and you start to physically break your system. Frankly, i'd suggest you just straight up stay away from blck overclocking as the gain aren't worth the risk

these two guys know what they're talking about. listen to them.

you have a little cash left over for a low profile cpu cooler, so you can overclock the system. Not a huge fan of the airflow in that case, but the budget limits the options a bit.

Forgot to mention i prefer the bitfenix prodigy, but its still under 650$. How much more do you guys think a haswell i5 will, im assuming a very similar amount, do you think i should wait a month and get a 4670k?

Splendid
Yeah with haswell you get a good preformance increase not huge but worth the wait and the price shouldnt be to much simular to the 3570k just slightly higher. The price for ivy bridge will drop when haswell is released which will be a good option aswell, nothing wrong with ivy
