Hey,

I'm putting together a part list for my first build. The computer's primary use will be for video editing using Adobe Premiere and After Effects.

I'll have to render HDSLR footage shot onthe Canon T2i. A quick note: I sometime worth with AF100 footage. I will probably be upgrading my camera to the gh2 or gh3 depending on how much I can flip my T2i for.

Here are the parts:

CPU
Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU COOLER
Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

MOHTERBOARD
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

MEMORY
Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

STORAGE
Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk

Toshiba 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

VIDEO CARD
EVGA GeForce GTX 650 1GB Video Card

Wireless Network Adapter
Rosewill RNX-N150PCe 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

CASE
Fractal Design Define R4 (Arctic White) ATX Mid Tower Case

CASE FAN
Antec 75024 79.0 CFM 120mm Fan

POWER SUPPLY
Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply

Here's the link to the parts list on pcpartpicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/scaredcrows/saved/1B0Y

The reason I'm going for the i7 3770k is that there is a Micro PC center near an upcoming filming location where I can buy the I7 for about 90 dollars cheaper than what it is online.

Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on this build? I'd like to know if these parts are compatible and if I could save money anywhere without sacrificing performance.

Especially if anyone has any long term experience with editing machines, will this build last me a couple of years?

Thank you.

Easily will last three years at least, CPU still overclocks a little, if required, can add aftermarket cooler to keep it cool when overclocking.

lov3boi - I'm not certain if I will be overclocking. I've had no experience doing it in the past, but perhaps I will do some minor stuff if I find it worth it.
Thanks butremor, I'm taken serious consideration into the alterations you have mentioned.
On another forum people mentioned holding off for the new I7 4770k to buy or wait for the i5 2660k to go on clearence at that point.
I'm not sure what to do about that.
The 580 was recommended over the 660 for video editing as well.
dinog07 - I looked into the RAID 0 set up and it said it puts your harddrives at more risk for failure. Is this a serious issue with that set up?

Thanks so much for the responses folks!

Actually, Haswell is expected to be just a few % better than current chips. That's what majority of people expect it to be after seeing previews. So, only reason to wait for next cpu line is to get previous gen cheaper, as usually prices drop to clear space for new arrivals. But you, having Microcenter nearby, don't even have to wait for that, cos they prices are way lower than other shops.
GTX 660 is a newet model so it' consumes less power, is tad better overall and costs less than gtx 580. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/767?vs=783

No, it doessn't make the drives fail (possibly) faster. What it does is render the data on either drive useless if one drive Should fail. That's the reason to back up the data on it, especially if it's paid work, daily... as is normal business practice.

IMO (and I'm sure everyone who does this for a living/hobby) - you'd be _____________ (insert opinionated negative word) not to use a RAID 0 setup as indicated in the post I linked to previously - IF you're going to use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 or newer
