Hey guys, I've heard of people getting their FX-6300 processors to 5ghz before, and I just wanted to know if this was actually true. I'm thinking about OCing mine, but I just want to see how high I could get it while remaining safe! I'm about to purchase a nice water cooling kit, so I'm not too worried about temperatures! Thanks!

EDIT: I probably should have put this in the Overclocking forum. My bad!

Quite literally, every FX-6300 is different. Some FX-6300s OC wonderfully, some to over 5 GHz (yep, it's true, you can get past this point), while others struggle to overclock well at all. Your mileage may vary and you'll simply have to try out the one you get and see it's potential.

Thanks! I've never overclocked before, and since this CPU usually runs pretty hot for me, I should probably wait until my water cooler comes in to try it out to avoid ruining it! I forgot to mention this in the question though, if I was at 4.2Ghz, would the turbo boost still give me the extra .5 or .6 ghz? or would it become unused when OC'ed past 4.1ghz?

No, once turbo is engaged, it doesnt "add" speed, it simply set the speed to whatever the turbo speed is set at, which is usually higher than stock speed.s

If your overclocked speed ends up surpassing your turbo speed, it is a good idea to turn turbo off. This is common practice.
