Ethernet adapter trouble!

The motherboard I'm currently using is the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3. If any other specs would help, I'll be glad to add more information.

I don't know how the problem came to be, but after coming home from classes my computer couldn't find the internet adapter when it was working fine before I left. This has happened before but to my laptop and I found the solution for it by searching up for wireless drivers. I tried doing the same, but for ethernet drivers since I use an ethernet cord for my pc.

I've restarted my computer multiple times, restarted my router and modem multiple times and even got a new ethernet cable to see if that was the problem. None of which helped.

So far I've spent over a day trying to solve this problem with Google and mostly every database I could find and use. The same time my internet adapter wasn't working, my CD/DVD wasn't working along with it, but I found the solution to that.

Before I found the solution to the CD/DVD problem, I went to the Gigabyte website and downloaded the Realtek LAN Driver and the Realtek Ethernet Diagnostic Utility (even though I know it wouldn't benefit as much). After installing the Realtek LAN Driver I ran the setup, but I received errors after errors stating the Realtek Network Controller wasn't found and that I have to "plug the cable." I tried to solve the solution and after looking at many forums, I:
1) Removed my RAM sticks
2) Removed my CMOS battery
3) Unplugged my PSU plug
4) Removed and replugged everything in my motherboard

None of the solutions worked so I system restored to a point a few weeks back, but that didn't restore my network adapter either. Searching up on more forums, there was a solution where I go to the BIOS to check if my onboard LAN was on and it was already on with the ROM disabled, but I enabled it although it had no effect.

After I got my CD/DVD drive working, I used the AMD 9/8/7-series Utility DVD that came with my motherboard and chose to install everything since it showed on the disc that it includes Network/Audio Drivers. Within the disc I went to "DVD > Network > Atheros" to see if it can install, but an error popped stating "Installer can't find Atheros AR81Family ethernet controller on your system." I Googled up said missing thing, but couldn't find anything having to do with it that was a direct download.

Most of the files I download install, but the error where it says "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable" is always popping up at the end.

Scratch all of that. I got Ubuntu installed, but network connections aren't working either. Since it might be a BIOS or hardware problem, what should I do?

I've tried plugging the ethernet cord to multiple ports on the router and I even plugged it into the modem, but neither worked. Is there an easy way to re-flash the BIOS? I Googled it up and it seems like a risky thing to do and the instructions were unclear. Also, how do I re-flash the firmware on the NIC?

I also just bought a wi-fi adapter in the meantime to compensate for the lack of LAN connections.
