so i'm getting a new gaming rig that includes:
Core I5 3570K
8Gb Ram Hyper X 1600Mhz
1Tb storage
Gigabyte Ga Z77MX d3h
700W power supply

so which is a better card for gaming ? i play games like Dirt 2 World of tanks, battle field 3 Etc. Etc.

and please do not offer me any other cards i know my self that it would be better to get the 7870XT but i Can't and so the choosing is from these two cards :)

P.s i will be playing these games on max setting at 1080p on a Asus VS238H-P and i expect it to be running 60fps most of the time (i can overclock if necessary)

Thank You,

Joris

Hi there, well the 7870 and the 660 are both fairly equal. In some games the 7870 has the edge, but in other games the 660 has it.
If you will be overclocking then that makes it easier, go for the 7870 as it will OC to near equivalent of a 7950 which is a BIG improvement.
You will be able to get 60fps in 99% of games on pretty high settings as well.

Here's a bit of info to back up my comment. 7870 vs 660 Benchmarks and again here.

Hope this helps.

The HD 7870XT is a cut-down HD 7950, so that would be much better than the GTX 660, but you could also find a GTX 660Ti for around the same price as a 7870XT - and that would be a superior card. Either card should handle every game on High settings at around 60fps + or - MSAA.

if you want to spend a little bit more you can get the 7870 xt. it is a 7950 scaled down. it crossfires with 79xx series cards
