I just build a photo PC last month for my own editing. I used the same CPU as you propose but I think you need to update the motherboard to a Z77 chip model to take advantage of the 'Ivy Bridge' processor. If that is too expensive for you, drop down to a 'Sandy Bridge' CPU. Will a 500GB HD be enough? Graphic files can be large and I don't know how long you will need to store things for (photographers store forever). HDs are not all that expensive and I'm put in a 2TB HD and have room for more as I need them. I don't know the LG monitor but photographers need a color managed monitor that one can calibrate. These run expensive and maybe for graphic arts purposes the one you propose is fine. Finally, I think your video card is a little older than the ones currently on the market and it might not perform as well as a GeForce 660 2GB which I put in my computer. I also added an SSD for the OS and program files, reserving the HD for data. Unfortunately my choices will add an extra $300 (don't know the current conversion rate) to your price. For graphics design you will probably also need to look into getting a Wacom tablet or other such stylus tool which adds more to the cost.

Thanks Alan. The Wacom and CC subscription will be seperate to this. I will be using it primarily for the illustration aspect, some photos perhaps but not massively to begin with.

Is there a rig you can reccommend in its entirity for £1000 (around $1500)?

For third gen i5 H61 mobo won't work - you need H77 chipset piece. For example, Asrock H77M is good. Z77 goes only 'k' model processors, which yours is not.
Better config for ram would be 2 x 4GB sticks of 1600 MHz.
As for GPU you need something like GTX 650 - more cuda cores. GT 610 is low end.
