Hello everyone
I'll try to give as much information as i can as I’ve tried everything and can't understand why one day WOL would stop working, when it worked perfect before.
I have an Asus P5KC board running Win7 Pro 64bit. The board does not support Win7 but I’ve managed to scrape drivers together and it’s been perfect to 2 years running 32bit then swapped to 64bit for more RAM.
It does have an onboard Atheros NIC which has been disabled since i moved to Win7 due to driver compatibility issues. I have a PCI-E Intel Gigabit CT Desktop card which runs perfectly and has been working with WOL until recently.
I can't tell you exactly when it stopped but it's been at least 2 months, no programs were installed around that time other than the usual Windows Updates.
The BIOS again hasn't been changed or modified and is set to allow WOL using PCI/PCIE devices.
I have the full Intel ProSet driver installed, current version 18.2 with all energy saving options unticked and all WOL options ticked.
These settings haven't been changed and have worked before, waking up my PC using apps on my iPhone, Laptop or even Custom firmware on my router.
Just to see if it was the firmware on the router i installed the original from Asus' (RT N56U) website as i know 100% it was working with this firmware, tested and still no wake up.
Even did a little research to see if there were any other settings, found another people suggest is under Power Options > High Performance/Change Plan > Advanced > PCI Express > Link state power management was set to Off.
Another is to add port 9 to the firewall for inbound connections, still nothing.
Then after a few tests, i got it to wake...The PC went in to Windows, shutdown again and tested, nothing...
Started the PC, checked the BIOS, all settings were perfect, nothing to change, restarted from the BIOS but turned it off before Windows was able to load.
Tested and it woke up...
So If the PC going in to windows and is shutdown correctly WOL DOES NOT work.
If i start the PC but then shut down just after Post WOL DOES work!
So something in Windows is powering down the LAN card at shutdown, again went back in to device manager and checked the driver settings, all "reduce link" settings unticked and "wake pc from shutdown" ticked.
I'm totally stumped and have no idea what has caused this and would really appreciate a fresh insight in to what i can try next.
Thanks.
