SSD Not working on HP Pavillion G6?

Hey, so I bought a SSD the other week and I'm having some real issues with it in my laptop, a HP Pavillion G6. I have updated the bios but the laptop just won't work with the SSD. The SSD works fine in my desktop but when I connect it to the laptop it doesn't work. I tried installing windows 7 on it but I get an error, I can't remember but it says something about I/O incorrect.. Please someone help me!

  1. Check to see if the laptop bios has an option to set the SATA mode to AHCI.

Also, with the desktop, ensure the firmware on the SSD is up to date.

I tried that firmware upgrade but the SSD was made in February 2013 so it's recent and doesn't need an update. Also the BIOS doesn't have that option :(
  3. Also:
    .. What SSD?
.. What OS? - windows 7 or 8 and are you using a Windows Install disk or the "factory" restore disk. Recommend a Windows Install disk over a factory restore disk.
    .. Concur with Nuke's comments.

How stupid of me, how did I not realize that I didn't put the SSD. It's a Sandisk 120gb ULTRA SSD. I'm using a windows 7 install disc. And as stated before I tried the update on the SSD and it's up-to-date. Also there's not AHCI mode in the Bios.
  5. What options are in the BIOS for the HDD??
Do NOT want IDE mode. If Sata Mode, may need the F6 driver from AMD - I'm guessing you have a AMD CPU.

Sorry for the late reply. I got the replacement for it today which was a SanDisk 120gb extreme however it still won't work.. It gets to copying windows files 59% and then just gives and error. Please help me!
  7. I understand this is an old thread. I had this same issue with a sandisk ultra 256 gb Model #sdssdhp256g. I did all the bios updates and the ssd has no firmware as of date. I have a SATA 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy that fits in the cd rom slot.
The laptop now boots like normal and runs great! Yes I lost the DVD burner.
  8. Strange that moving the drive worked out.

I would have guessed they would use the same controller for all drives on a notebook.

At least you managed to get a workaround.
