I am buying a new computer and am wondering should i get this http://www.pless.co.uk/product.php?productid=8883; or this http://www.pless.co.uk/product.php?productid=9782; I know that I'd get better performance with the amd but I've heard that I should go with intel

Yes! You are comparing one of the best gaming CPU on the market today with a fairly weak FX CPU. I personally would prefer the AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (which is cheaper) over the FX-4100, even though the Phenom is older.

The i5-3470? The best? Not... entirely... But close enough I suppose.

You don't make a difference between CPUs by their clock speed, number of cores or socket type but by their architecture, requirements, etc. If you're using the FX-4100, it's gonna perform certainly a lot worse than the i5 3570 because of the architecture which is totally different as you can see by the huge difference in price. The 3570 has a larger L3 cache and you might know that the larger the cache, the faster the CPU usually is. For a budget gaming build, I recommend you getting the i5 3570 but if you wish to get good enough performances for about 70 pounds lower, then go for the AMD :)

Your only asking about the cpu that you want. What about the rest of your build? The gpu is as important for a gaming build. What will you be using this computer for?
