I am in the process of replacing the Dell mobo with an MSI Z77MA-G45. I was able to reconnect almost everything except for two separate wires near the system exhaust fan on the rear of the case. Do I need these wires connected to something in order for the mobo to power up? Right now with everything connected the system does not power up. Also is there only one orientation to connect the four pin connector to the mobo?

The 4pin is keyed so that it will fit only one way. Do the "loose" wires have any tags on them? What were they connected to on the old m/b?

You do realize that you will need to purchase a new copy of windows by replacing the m/b?

No tags that I noticed and I could only follow the two wires so far because the power supply obscured the ultimate location. For the two wires, I believe the area on the old mobo was called Panel F. I will have better information and pictures this evening upon returning home.

I was not sure about the windows replacement because I found conflicting information. I did research the purchase however in anticipation of the potential purchase.

Set up a free account on a photo hosting site such as photobucket.com and upload the picture then post the link.

Great thanks. On an earlier question of mine, the two wires power the WLAN module on the Dell Vostro. I am not sure what the situation is as far as WLAN on the MSI mobo. I need to check the 4 pin and the 24 pin connectors to insure that the power supply connections are properly seated per MSI support.

What model number is your Dell?

Are you using the Dell case for this swap?

Here's a LINK to your service manual. Any chance the two wires are the antennas from the wifi mini-card (page 34)?

yes it is the wifi antenna.

I have a green light on the psu so I know I have power. I am not sure what to try next in troubleshooting why the computer does not startup. I checked the connections and I think they are ok.

This is your new MOBO

Now have you connected Connector 1 (4 pin) to the new MOBO, location about the same.
Second. Power button wiring, this could be Dell proprietary configuration, from the first look at the pictures they look the same, but the problem could be there.
