I am playing metro last light, first few scenes were fantastic, I have a TITAN card, and set the graphics to very high, and normal tessellation, with PhysX off (I think PhysX has been the root of problems in the past so to start off I left it off)

after I escaped the Nazi area, I switched to PhysX (had to install it) and used the GeForce Experience program to optimize my settings. it turned off tessellation and turned PhysX on. from that point forward I have seen tiny choppiness/stuttering here and there, I went to turn off the PhysX and go back to very high w/normal tessellation but the options no longer show either of those. whats going on? did I do something that hid those options? also here are my computer specs, I assumed my system could play any game at max/ultra settings, apparently that isn't the case and again, I don't understand why, I use a single monitor and thought sli was only necessary for multiple monitors.

additional info:
when I tried to install PhysX it said a newer version was already installed, which I had removed ALL PhysX drivers with driver sweeper weeks ago, so I don't understand how or why it would tell me it was already installed. it wasn't in my programs list and I had wiped all the drivers for PhysX and even used revo uninstaller pro on it, so how was it still there?

afaik physx driver is included in standard nvidia driver package. there are seperate installer for physx though. sometimes this stand alone physx driver are newer version compared to the one included in the forceware package. btw why removing physx driver in the first place? anyway try reinstalling the driver and this time try using clean install option from nvidia installer

I found the solution. I had this problem too after it crashed and I mistakenly ran the game in safe mode. Reinstalling the game didn't work because it was still stuck in safe mode. So I did some Google searching and found this:

Metro Last Light – Stuck at Safe Mode
There is a possibility that your game may face a random crash and on re-launch, it may ask you to run in safe mode. The game turns off some features which you may have to enable manually.
Firstly, force the game to run in DirectX 11 mode as mentioned in #6. If that doesn’t work, a re-install or restoring your system back to when you installed the game will work.

If you don’t have a very good PC and you want to maximize the performance, i will recommend that you run the game in DX 9 mode. To do that:
You need find the .cfg file that is usually located in %LOCALAPPDATA%\4A Games\Metro LL\.
Open the user.cfg in a text editor.
Find the command line “r_api X”.
In place of X, you need to put ’0′ if you want to run the game in DX 9 mode. For DX 10 and 11, you will have to add 1 and 2 respectively in place of ‘X’ in the command line.

Use either Notepad or Notepad ++ to change the X to 2 for DX 11. So, r_api 2 and save. This worked for me and the Tessellation option is back.
