Does 32gigs of memory have a affect on gaming performance.

I hope next month to start building my first HTPC. I have been looking for a reason to upgrade my memory. I was toying with the idea of using the memory in my system for the HTPC setup. Then getting 32gigs of memory to put back in my gaming desktop.

I have read a few different places that upgrading past 16gigs of memory is completely pointless. Most the items I found saying that where year old or older.

Another question I have is would 4 gigs be enough to run a HTPC? Its going to be performing pretty basic functions, such as youtube, netflix, amazon video, etc. The only intensive thing I have planed for it is Blue-ray play back hopefully at 1080p resolutions.

Thanks for the help

There is little to no need for 32 GB of RAM in any home gaming desktop. If you have 32 GB of RAM you either have a server, do heavy video stuff (animation creation, rendering etc) or have the money to piss away. It's like buying a 12 story house with 30 rooms and only have enough furniture for an apartment. Buy what you need.

But to answer you question, 4 GB is more than plenty for a HTPC.

Thanks guys it sounds like my 4gigs is more then ample to run the HTPC and that 32gigs in my system would be completely pointless. There any advice on what I should look at for as far as HTPC's go?

Right now I am looking at

Motherboard

I am extremely open to suggestions thought. I am not dead set on Intel.
