Graphics card being detected but not being used

I recently installed a 650 ti boost and a cx600w power supply
System: Windows 8
8 gigs of ram
i5-3330

I look on MSi afterburner, then launch a game, and the GPU is not being used at all, but my CPU usage spikes and i cant play any games due to severe lag.

Were you using the built in hd graphics of the cpu?

If so you are going to need to completely uninstall your graphics drivers.

Run a driver cleaner.

Then install the 650's drivers after restarting and making sure you set PEG in your mobo's bios as fist boot device/graphics adapter.

make sure you installed the correct drivers for your gpu. If you had a card installed before you would need to remove the old drivers from your computer, then install the new ones.

I can confirm that I had the correct drivers already

Well I am a complete idiot. After 6 hours i realized the HDMI input for my monitor was plugged into the PC slot instead of the GPU slot. All is well.
