Why Do Games No Longer Use Blob Shadows Anymore?

I noticed that the latest game just threw away the blob shadows. I know they do not look that good, but personally, I love them. I always disable dynamic/real shadows for my games because it provides me with a huge FPS boost. However, I still like to have blob shadows underneath people, buildings, and objects. It makes the game look better, and it does not make the FPS drop.

With the more recent games I played, it seems the game developers just threw out blob shadows. These games rather have NO shadows at all. So if you disable shadows, there is no shadows whatsoever. You have to enable the dynamic shadows at the lowest settings if you just want to have a dark shade under your character.

My question is, why don't games use blob shadows anymore?

Because most people can use shadows in games with little performance dropoff?

To be honest, I have no idea.

Keep in mind, most consoles (Where about 70% of PC games come from these days) don't use blob shadows, so that might have something to do with it.
