do you know the make and model of your router?
usually routers that have external antennas are removable and therefore replaceable
im not from the us, but where i live the local computer store has antennas for sale (some labeled to have higher performance and range though i cannot attest to that)

More than likely it is not worth your effort. You would have to build your own cable from microwave grade cable so you could solder it to the board and then hook it to one of the many after market replaceable antenna. You need to get this perfect or you do not get the signal gain you need. You will automatically be in violation of the FCC rules even if you do a perfect job because you do not have test data to show you are not in violation of the radio emission laws. Not like they will catch you but the fine is huge if they would.

wow i did not know an antenna was such a hassle
i must say i have never tried to replace a antenna before, but my router's antenna is removable and seeing them available in the store made me think it was just changing parts

only thing i can think of is asking for a new one from netgear
