Hi guys. Im looking for the forum experience on this matter. My system :
Gigabyte Z77M-D3H
INTEL 3770k
2 X 8GB Kingston DDR3
Sapphire HD 5870 Vapor X 2 GB
SSD Kingston Hyper X 240 GB
HDD Hitachi 7200 RPM 4 TB
HDD SAMSUNG 7400 RPM 1,5 TB
ASUS BR-DVD Drive

This MOBO has a PCIEX 16 X, a PCIEX 1X and one PCIEX 4X
My HD 5870 covers de PCIEX 1X so i tried to put the ASUS XONAR sound board (1X) on the PCIEX 4X slot. Ive read around that you can use any PCIEX ports as long as it fits. The system wont boot, nothing on the display.
So i took out the HD 5870 and stated the machine with the onboard VGA, using the 1X PCIEX slot and again the same result. wont boot.
Then i gave a last shot and tried on the PCIEX 16x and it worked. (???)
So i question is it a bug on the MOBO , or some configuration on bios . I have updated to last BIOS with the gigabyte program.
I am using 2 SATA 3 ports and 2 SATA 2 .
Can anyone have any idea on what to try ???
Thanks in advance
(i contacted ASUS XONAR support and they said they cant help cuz it was not a problem with the card.)

I just solved it. So, when i was trying to fix it first i did a bios update to F13. It did not work. Today i tryied the BETA F14d Bios and the system booted with the ASUS on the PCIE4X and my 5870 on the PCIE16x. it first did not recognize the board and would not install the drivers because of that. I shut off and went back into bios and disabilitated the AUDIO on board. It than found the XONAR na let me put the drivers. It was still time consuming to put all things working, the microphone you have to find where you choose back panel (if you use the back microphone as me). Also, i tryied to put the on board √°udio back and it worked both together, but than i got it disabled again (theres no reason to have both).
At the end the conclusions :
1- Its not ASUS fault , its the GIGABYTE MOBO BIOS
2- I read that sometimes the dual bios interchange some data, so im not sure if it was the F14d or the fact that i have donne 2 updates (so like the 1st was F13 and the other bios went to F14d, so both updated)(just my thinking ...)

I hope no one has to waste so much time as i did about that. Just update the Bios.
