I just got BF3 for PC today (got sick of it on Xbox) and i only get about 30 fps with every thing on low and that's on campaign.
I have no idea how good it will run online. I think the main thing i need is a new GPU but im not to sure.
Right now my specs are :
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+ 2.6ghz
RAM: 2GB DDR2
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512mb
MotherBoard: Albatron K8NF4X-AM2
Only cost me $205 NZ
It runs every game i want nice maxed out with 100+ fps apart from BF3 
I don't know if i can but i would like to get a new motherboard that can take my CPU and GPU but use DDR3 ram (around 8gb) as DDR2 ram is very hard a cost alot of $$$
