So I had prebuilt a computer for my parents not so long ago and the mobo's heat sink bracket broke. I contacted the company and got a replacement. After I replaced it, I went a little overboard on the thermal paste and some got into the motherboard. I tried to clean it off as best that I could and eventually got the computer to turn back on while it was laying flat. After I stood it up, it wouldn't turn on again.
In trying to clean, I broke the pins in the cpu. I understand that is toast. But I can still see a little bit of the thermal paste on the plastic part of the mobo where you put the cpu. Am I better off buying just the cpu, or is there a good chance my mobo is fried as well? and if so, should I get the same ones or is there a more affordable option?
