If strictly for gaming go with intel, but I would go for the I7 3770k or Haswel equivalent as games are using more cores .
The 3570k is the sweet spot now but who knows in a couple of years. If you can afford it I would go I7.If you choose between 3570k and 8350 the intel is the best now, but the amd might prove to be a wise investment for the future.

If you will build a complete new system, go with the haswell, its better, newer, future support. If you really really want a system before haswell releases you can go with the 3570K, it will serve you very well in gaming, also the performance increase wont be to big between haswell and ivy. So: wait for haswell if you CAN or want, else take the Ivy.

If you are buying parts today, get the i5-3570k.

If you can wait three weeks until Haswell is released, wait until it's reviewed and benchmarked. We would expect Haswell to be some improvement over Ivy Bridge, but that didn't exactly happen with Bulldozer and K10. If it's not an improvement and/or the price is too high, you can still get the IB i5.

I want this to happen. This is the only way we will have a good gaming cpu under $200.00

As we have seen on Tom's even last year most games used only 1 or 2 cores which made the I3, I5 and I7 basicly the same at gaming. This year the I3s are no longer in the top tier as games use more cores and the older amd 4 and 6 core cpus came up several tiers because they utilise more cores. What will happen as games go on to use even more cores? I believe the I7 and possibly the 8 core amd will thrive with these games using over 4 cores. What happens to the 4 core I5, be sure they will be very good at gaming but they certainly will not be the sweet spot anymore. Amd has not gotten any better the games are utilising more cores so the more cores (or threads) you have the better off you will be in the future.

Not exactly. The next gen consoles look to be using 1.6GHz octa-cores with AMD architecture. If that's true, a stock clocked 3570 (3.6 turbo) has twice the clock speed with each clock performs more instructions (unless AMD plays significant catch up). Even factoring thread scheduling overhead (eight threads handled by four cores), the 3570 will not have any issues in the coming years.

That's my SWAG, at any rate.

What do consoles have to do with FX8350s and their steamroller equivalent???????????
The 3570k has 4 cores no hyperthreading, but you know this so what are you talking about. We are talking about desktop cpus.

He might alluding to the school of thought that because consoles drive the gaming business, the AMD multi-core based PS4 and XB720 will spawn more multi-threaded titles that FX 8350 could potentially take advantage of.

That may be true but why allude to console cpu specs when we are talking about desktop gaming cpus.It will confuse a lot of people.
it's bad enough comparing apples and oranges without throwing in a watermelon.

*All* the talk across these boards is about more cores based on next gen consoles and whether the 3570 (typically) will be viable for the next several years. The original question was 3570K, Haswell, or FX. So, my point was that the 3570K or Haswell equivalent will be just fine for the foreseeable future. Apologize if I didn't make that clear enough.
