I recently built my own system, and it worked fine (well...) installing drivers, and running the intel stress test and memory tests. When I booted up a game, it played for a bit, then just powered down.

It won't power up at all, no lights, no fans, not a thing.

Gigabyte 7ZZX-D3H Mobo
Thermaltake 600w PSU
Sapphire Radeon 7950 HD
8GB (4x2) Corsair Vengeance Memory
Cooler Master 212 Evo Fan
Intel i5 3570k Processory (3.4 GHz)
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD

Solution
Try Furmark for your GPU (or OCCT's GPU test). If that crashes you (since it sounds like the Burn Test doesn't) I'd guess you may have a defective PSU.

Edit: Actually, if you are hearing a crackling sound you might want to just yank that PSU before something else gets damaged.

Thanks for the response. I readjusted everything, and it came back on. I'm running a stress test now, and watching the temps/etc. The PSU fan is definitely spinning, I can see it.

I'm glad that I got it back on, but now I'm worried that something might be wrong and it will do this again. =\

As an update, once I started running another game again, it failed within a few minutes. The GPU temp was around 55-60, and the CPU temps were a bit lower, so nothing extreme.

It made a 'crackle' or a 'grind' like a fan was failing, almost?

It won't turn on at all unless I unplug everything for a few minutes.
