Thought I had SSD choice figured out :-(

I want to add a SSD as a OS+programs drive, keeping my OEM 500GB HDD for files, which seems like a pretty typical upgrade path for a lot of people. It is going in a Dell Vostro 460 desktop with Windows 7 Pro, and 10GB of RAM. My primary concern is reliability, though I want it to be fast enough that there is a dramatic enough difference that it's worth the trouble and expense.

I'm currently using around 32GB of space for Windows and Programs. I've had the computer for 2 years and don't typically install a lot of programs. I figured a 120GB drive would be plenty of capacity, leaving a certain amount of room so as not to fill the SSD up too far.

I had narrowed it down to an Intel 520 120GB or Samsung 840 Pro 128GB, leaning towards the latter. Then someone told me anything under 240GB is a waste of time, that the NAND is not optimally interleaved, and that that the small capacity does not leave any 'extra' to leave for Over Provisioning. I don't exactly understand why leaving roughly 78GB of free space isn't enough for the drive to play with for at least three years, at the rate I install new programs. Most of the reviews for the two drives I'm looking at have been great, never mentioning 120-128GB just isn't bigh enough for a basic install.

What doe you guys think? Is 120-128 enough? I really don't want to spend much more than what the 120GB drives are going for, but is it really that under capacity for the money?

That's the plan...iTunes library, photos, and docs. all will go to D drive (HDD)

Thanks guys! I'll narrow in on the Samsung. I may get lucky and catch a sale on the 256GB...I have a hard time seeing how it's worth $100 more as a OS/Programs drive
