When i move the mouse over the taskbar, clicking doesn't do anything. Also desktop folders won't open and i have to do Ctrl+Alt+Del then cancel to temporarily fix it.)

I did a window 7 update last night which included some 'mouse and keyboard updates'. Also an AMD update offer popped up around the time i did the windows 7 update. I did not have this issue before the update. I CAN NOT do a system RESTORE even in safe mode; No way No how! So there's no going back to before the update. That is a separate issue.

I hope this gives someone here a clue as to what this is; i can't live like this.

Thanks guys
kevin

Okay, thanks. I appreciate you and thanks for the response! I was unaware of Rouge Killer; i'm d/l it now and if that fixes it then great and i'll let you know one way or another.

"You might also want to go into windows update and uninstall the latest updates (sort them by date)

I would check for viruses with malware bytes and rogue killer in safe mode with networking just in case."

Okay; i did all of this and rogue killer found some stuff in the registry but no files. It generated 6 reports and created a quarantine folder which i deleted along with the registry entries. I can post 1 or all of those reports if it would help.
Regardless, i've still got the problem of every now and then having to do the crt alt del thing which makes it good for a short time.

On the first rogue killer report, there was one bit that bothered me; here's a portion of it:

+++++ PhysicalDrive2: WD 5000AAV External USB Device +++++

Error reading LL2 MBR!

RKreport[1]_S_05162013_02d1715.txt

"Error reading LL2 MBR!" Is this anything?

Okay; if you....or anyone else...can think of something else to try, i'll do it!
Did i mention the AMD update? and i also d/l the newest VLC player. There's nothing else i could have possibly done to cause this. I am also, right now, running the microsoft security essentials full scan which i couldn't do while in safe mode. Also when i rebooted, the MSE was off and would not turn on till i restarted again.

One more stupid thing happened when i first re-booted; my password would not work.i logged in as another user and deleted it. Bother!

Thanks

I'm now looking at re-installing win7 using the upgrade option. I'd rather like finding a solution to the freeze problem though....anyone?

I did find and disable the usb selective suspend setting but it did not fix it :/

thanks
