Performance Difference Between 2x4GB and 1x8GB

Hello,

Building a new computer and just jumped on a deal which allowed me to upgrade my build from an i5-3470 w/ Asrock H77 Pro4/MVP mobo to an i5-3570K w/ Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 mobo for only 5 bucks. I could do this as the z77 extreme 4 came with a free stick of 1x8GB Ballistix Ram.

I was originally planning on using 2x4GB in dual channel, but I couldn't pass up the deal to go to a 3570K with z77 as it would allow me to overclock in the future if I wanted to.

I will use this computer mostly for gaming. My question is, how much of a performance loss am I looking at with just the single channel 8GB ram?

For reference, this is my build:

And the RAM in question is:

My options I've thought of so far are to:
1) Stick with the single channel 8Gb.
2) Sell the stick of ram on Ebay and purchase some 2x4GB ram for dual channel.
3) Purchase a second crucial ballistix 8gb identical to the one I have and run dual channel at 16GB.

What do you think?

Of course dual channel is better performance wise. What I am really asking is whether it is worth it to get another 8gb stick or replace with 2x4. I dont' have a lot of money. Will I really notice the performance change?

I would definitely recommend going dual channel. The bandwidth penalty of single channel will probably cost you some FPS (and in particular, affect minimum frame rates).

RAM is cheap, so I would recommend a second 8GB stick. 16 GB will probably give you little or no extra benefit in games, but may have a noticeable impact on overall system performance when you have lots of apps open.
