Hi, I am trying to build a decent video editing PC for around $800 (I am not finding much luck). I cant decide whether to go for an i5 3570k with Hyper 212 Evo and OCed to like 4.4ghz or just get an i5 3470? The price is minimal but how much faster would an i5 3570k at 4.2ghz or so be compared to the 3.6ghz on the 3470?

Another question: How much can I OC the i5 3570k with the Hyper 212 Evo cooler?

i5 for gaming, i7 for video editing. hyper threading doesn't really help games, but it helps video editing quite a bit.

you're going to have a hard time getting 4.4 ghz with the 212 evo, The temps go way up after 4.2 on mine. you should get a better cooler if you're shooting that high.

if you're getting i5, get i5 3570k so you can overclock

the idea of overclocking is to increase performance proportionally.

An i7 will really help your video editing.

If you have the budget to comfortably fit the i5-3570K, it is a great value. The 3470 isnt much better at stock clocks and it's not bad at all even if the 3570K is pushing 1.0 GHz above it or more. Both will suit your use (not as good as an i7 though) and the price difference isnt much, so just get the 3570K if you aren't on a tight budget.
