If you are not overclocking that would be the minimum you will need. I would plan for future upgrades and buy a better supply than you need. Look at the Seasonic , Corsair and Antec lines. 80+, bronze or better, single rail. 550- 600 watt. That way when you finaly upgrade the old Core 2 Quad to an i5, you wont have to buy a new power supply.

Most of Thermaltakes PSU's are ok. That Gigabyte is made by FSP. Thermaltake TR2 RX is made by HEC Of the two I'd go with the thermaltake.

But consider this one first:

Hi - Actually that TT TR2 RX 450 is made by CWT & not HEC, which is good news.

CWT is much more reliable an OEM than HEC, I wouldn't recommend an HEC built unit.

Of the two PSU's you listed, go with the TR2 RX450 as it has 4more amps(38 vs 34) on the
+12v rail(s) than the Gig, and it is sufficient to power your system.

The Gig Odin 470 is actually a 400w unit & not 470 which is why it has fewer
+12v rails amps.

What was the "stupid" PSU that you were using and how did it become "stupid"?
It might not have been so stupid but I won't know until you tell me.
Actually, it might not have been the PSU that caused whatever happened, what did happen?

Edit - Don't use a Gigabyte PSU with an intel CPU, Gigabyte is an AMD preferred PSU to enable CoolnQuiet feature.

Edit2 - To attain the 8gb maximum, you have to use 2 x 4096mb (4gb) @1600mhz (kit of two)

Dont just throw out that gauntlet, back it up with some facts. I posted a link to the information to back up my claim. I maintain generators, power distribution systems and battery systems and have done so for over twenty years. If your going to call my comments "a joke", proove its funny.

K - Looks like TT switched OEM's on the RX series as 7 HEC models are discontinued,
and the only disc CWT model is a 500w unit which looks like TT is taking out
of this series & going with 450-550-650, etc as a lot of brands seem to with
their step up series'.
