Hi all,

I am debating on onboard video processing vs a dedicated video card for my office computer (I own my own business). I don't know what makes sense.

I am going to get a 27 in 1440p monitor, and I run a lot of apps at the same time. I may watch some videos for work at times, but probably not much. This is not a gaming rig, I already have one at home.

I do want manipulation of windows and running multiple simultaneous apps to be as smooth as possible. I also will be running some apps off a work server. However, there is no sense in throwing money away. My gut is to go with an i7.

I am considering:

i5 3570 (intel HD 2500) ~$195
i7 3770 (intel HD 4000) ~ $290
i5 3570 + GTX 650 ~ $300

Personally I would go with i5 3570 (intel HD 2500). Seams you don't really need a dedicated video card and when it comes to choosing between 3570 and 3770, the first one is more than enough for normal office use. Itse more important to have enough memory and an SSD drive. If you on other hand are re-encoding videos, rendering images, compressing lots of files etc, then 3770 might be the right choice, but for normal office applications you rarely would notice the difference between 3570 and 3770.

Does you work involve any kind of graphics and/or video processing?
Or does any of your apps take up allot of CPU/RAM?

With a screen that big and at 1440p i would get some sort of GPU.
Does not need to be a extreme good GPU but something modest to make your viewing experience better.
But without the answer to the above 2 questions i asked i can't really make out what your rig workload looks like to give a proper advice.
