USB3 Front Access Without USB3 on Mobo

Hey guys,

I currently have the ASUS P6T Deluxe which doesn't have USB3 on it unfortunately. I am trying to get USB3 access from the front of my computer and the only way I could think of so far was to get a PCIe to USB3 card then plug in a USB3 hub. My question is, is this the only way of achieving USB3 at the front of the computer when I don't have it on my mobo? Is there some way of doing it with a USB3 card reader or 5.25" USB3 front bay? They would look so much better than a hub.

Any contribution appreciated.

If your case supports USB3 outputs, you can get a PCIe/PCI card that has USB3 outputs and connect to them just like you would on your motherboard.

If you do NOT have USB3 outputs on the case, you would be buying something that comprises the PCIe/PCI component and the 3.5" or 5.25" component that installs similar to a DVD drive.

This LAST ONE also had a rear USB3 output which is good for external hard drives. All complete kits I've seen appear to use PCIe x1 connectors. No PCI. Note that a PCIe x1 connector can be plugged into ANY PCIe slot (x1, x4, x8, x16). On some motherboards this can affect the performance of a graphics cards bandwidth due to shared PCIe issues. Investigate this if needed in your motherboard manual, though in reality for most people it likely wouldn't matter.

*The QUALITY and PERFORMANCE are going to vary quite a bit. I don't have time to research further so good luck.
