I'm rocking an old E5200 @3.6 ghz on an Asus P5Q Pro mobo. I found a q9550 (actually its a x3360 E0 step) for $120 new. Given the recent C2 vs IB article, thinking this is a worth while upgrade to get me through another 3+ years.
I mainly game older games. Fallout New Vegas is next on my list and once Skyrim drops in price, I'll be on that too. Both will be heavily modded. Torchlight 2 is handled with some lag but that might be the 9600GSO I'm using as a fill in card since my 4850 puked.
When I upgrade GPUs, I'm usually in the $150-$200 range, so something like a 660 or 7870 right now which means the cpu might not be a bottle neck anyway.
I've been out of the building game for a long time. Next upgrade will be an SSD and GPU to follow. But there's not really any money for any of this, just an opportunity buy, or should I pass it up and do a full budget build in a year or two?
