Hi,

In the near future I'm building a PC, but am unsure of the PSU requirements. Here is the list of the specs:

AMD FX-8350
XFX Radeon 7850
Kingston HyperX Red 8GB
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
WD Blue 1TB 64MB
Samsung Internal 24x DVD Burner
AeroCool Strike-X One

As mentioned preferably in the range of 500-600 watt. Make sure to get a PSU with at least 80+ bronze certification and a strong 12v rail, a 12v rail is where most of the power is coming from and have one strong and consistent 12v rail is just about the most important thing in your PSU. The more amps a 12v rail as the better.

This might sound difficult if you're new to PSUs (about a strong 12v rail), so it is easier just to spot at least the 80+ certification and get a PSU from a great brand such as Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, XFX, Rosewill or Fractal. These brand are in my book great performing PSUs that you can rely on.

Thermaltake is a really mixed bag.... they have TERRIBLE PSUs and some pretty decent PSUs...
As long as you buy their high end 1000w+ PSUs, then they're actually decent. (made by enhance and fsp) Everything else they got is from terrible to mediocre.

As Killer said, it's really a mixed bag. You could get a great PSU for the money, and the other way around. The absolute best brand in the world of PSUs is Seasonic, XFX also as Seasonic makes their PSUs, which give them similar quality.

Thermaltake has a PSU Calculator here:
http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/

You can use it to determine exactly how big your PSU needs to be, and then buy whatever brand you want. My favorite is Corsair (although I currently use one of the aforementioned Thermaltake PSUs).

Pretty much it depends on how well of a PSU he wants. If he wants a high mid tier, then get a CX series Corsair. (their CX series is really mediocre... but they still do a 5 year warranty on it so that's at least nice if it ever fails lol)

Pretty much I would choose either if you got $70 for a PSU: (Corsair is only $10 cheaper... but I'd rather pay that extra $10 than get a inferior PSU)
