I have just built my new pc and when i start it up the ssd i bought for the boot drive is not detected. The dvd drive and the hdd is showing up but no sign of the ssd. i looked at the back of the ssd and there seemed to be an orange light shining out of it. I changed the sata data and power leads to check for faulty wires but that changed nothing. Any ideas?

Since the DVD is being detected, you know the cables and port where the DVD drive is connected are all good. If you disconnect the cables at the DVD drive and plug in the SSD, we can eliminate several possible issues:
bad sata cable, bad power cable, bad sata port on system board. configuration issues (sata port disabled, shared sata port etc..). Its just a quick check.

Also, please be sure to power off system when making cable changes.
