I just got my brand new computer built and I seem to be having some issues and I can't seem to find any information that pertains to my situation on the internet.

My new, custom built, computer features an ASUS P8Z68-V LX motherboard, a 2TB SATA hard drive and runs Windows 7 64-bit. Upon bootup, I get a message that states "SATA port 1-ST2000DM001-1CH164 Smart Status Bad, Backup and replace. Press F1 to setup." I press F1, I enter the BIOS, select the hard disk to boot from, exit and the system boots up to Windows 7.

Upon logging in to Windows, I get an error message that states "Windows is reporting a hard disc failure." The Intel Rapid Storage Technology pops up and says 1 or more events may be at risk.

It's a brand new computer, brand new motherboard, brand new hard drive, haven't even had it a week.

Can someone give me some assistance of what to do?

Thank you

'Smart status bad' is the issue, return the hard drive if its only a week old.

Both the BIOS and windows is telling you that your hard drive has failed.

chkdsk won't reset the Smart status of a HDD once it's been 'tripped'
