I have an old desktop that i build years ago around an Amd opteron 165 processor. I used a dfi nf4 motherboard, obviously that isn't usable. I want to use an Amd a6 3500 processor. Can i use my rosewill 550d power supply? My Wd 3200k hard drive? Or my plextor 716 cdrw drive? That way I will only need a motherboard, case, and ram. Any suggestions? Thanks

You should be able to reuse the Rosewill power supply assuming it has a 20+4pin (or 24 pin) power connector. With the hard drive and optical drive, however, you need to determine whether they are SATA or IDE drives. If they're IDE drives, either your new motherboard needs to support those drives or they need to be replaced.

For any other recommendations, we'd probably need a budget and clarification on what parts you actually can reuse.

yeah like wolf said you'll need to make sure yr mobo can support ide. if it doesn't there's work around ie http://sewelldirect.com/SATA-to-IDE-Converter.asp but careful with converters some of em are shoddy, this one seems to be aight. just gotta think about the pros and cons. you can get some decent sata hardware ie cd drives/hd's on ebay for rather cheap. doesn't have to be sata iii or nothin and it'll be a lot faster than yr current hardware. but yeah take it easy have a good weekend.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will buy a new hd, maybe even an ssd, and just let the plextor go since it's IDE. What kind of a case am I looking at if my height maximum is just under 12"?
