Weird Freezing Then Blue Screen

Hey,
I have been having this problem with my pc for a while but now its gotten worse, the whole system will randomly grind to a halt then close all programs then switches to windows 7 basic before blue screening. I've updated all my drivers etc.
My system specs are :
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
XFX 5870 1gb Graphics card
6gb Ram
650w PSU
i7 860 (stock clocks)

Any advice/tips would be much appreciated

Possible causes:
What is the PSU brand? cheap PSU might be unstable at load.
Also, have you tried using different/ spare graphic card? (i doubt it is the graphic card)
Did you make any changes to the Bios, changing memory timing perhaps?
Did you try removing one stick of memory to see if the problem might be related to a bad stick?

Is your CPU heatsink properly seated? Is the fan running? Is the GPU fan running?
You said that this problem is random, but out of curiousity, do you notice that the problem occur more often under specific circumstances (ie, when you are playing a graphically intense game)?

Hey , the PSU is a thermal take evo blue it is about 2 years old, I did wipe the hard drive then re install drivers. I'll try removing a stick of RAM. The crashing is at absolute random such as when I was browsing the net before it crashed. It also happens in games too such as Counter Strike Source. I'll let you know if changing the ram fixes it

What is the motherboard brand and model number, ram speed, quantity?

The CPU accepts memory types DDR3-1066/1333, up to 16gb.
The i7 860 came out in 2009.
