7970 vapor-x.... 650W power supply?

Hey guys,

I have searched for an answer for this but haven't managed to find anything...

I have recently purchased an HD7970 Vapor-X 3GB... I was under the impression that I would only need at least a 550W PSU to be able to run it.

However, after looking at the specifications on the box and in the manual of the graphics card itself, it states that it needs a 750W PSU to be able to power it...

I have an XFX Pro 650W Core Edition PSU, which comes with the 8-pin PCI-E cables (which is why I thought I'd be safe with this PSU)...

Should I upgrade my PSU before fitting the card? I don't want to risk damaging anything as my new system is almost complete!!!

Thanks in advance for replies,

-A

I would guess that the 750W number is for CrossFire.

You'd be fine even on a good 500W PSU, and that is a very good PSU.

I suspected that it might be for CrossFire, it just didn't state that on the box which confused me a bit...

Thanks for your reply now, though. I have been sitting with it on my desk wanting to fit it all day not knowing whether I had to wait to buy a new PSU or not. Going to start fitting it straight away!

Thanks again
