5 Beeps on Start-Up, 970 Extreme3, FX 6300

Earlier today, I thought that I had a dead motherboard on my hands. However, after resetting the BIOS via the CMOS jumper and battery, I now hear five beeps from the speaker that I have plugged in at start up. The CPU fan spins, the video card fans spin, but I still get no video output to the monitor (I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable, but I can't imagine that being any kind of problem). I know that 5 beeps is generally indicative of a CPU problem, but what could be happening?

Here is my build specs:

AMD FX-6300
ASRock 970 Extreme3 Motherboard
WD Blue 1TB Hard Drive
XFX Radeon HD 7870 video card
Cooler Master HAF 912 Case
SeaSonic M12II Bronze 520W PSU

Edit: I re-seated the RAM. I have tried everything, but nothing has worked. What's going on here?

reseat the memory, test with one memory module, reseat the video card, reseat the cpu, something isn't making proper contact.

check the motherboard manual for troubleshooting.

Anything else on this? I'm having the same problem. Except mine is a Z77 Extreme3.

It's cleared up - it was a video card error, according to asrock support. I literally did nothing else but wait one night, and the thing worked. What are your symptoms?

WHat do you mean exactly by video card error?

I believe I had too much thermal paste on my processor and CPU cooler, and it may have spooged out onto the pins or something, so going to try that when I go home. If that doesn't work, I am going to test my other cpu in my mobo, and if that doesn't work, test my mobo out of the case.

The symptoms were the same as yours, 5 beeps, and no video. Fans work, and GPU fan works, lights work on front of case, but no video.

I email asrock and they said 5 beeps is a "VGA card error." As far as I can tell, cpu errors on asrock boards don't give any sound at all. The only thing that remotely seemed to do anything, for me, was the bios wipe. You may end up emailing asrock support, as I did, since I didn't technically fix this - it sorted itself out.

It was my CPU. Tried my old Celeron, and that worked. No biggie, even if I screwed it up, it's still under warranty

Sounds like their intel and AMD boards have different beep codes. Funny, but I'm glad it worked out.

Yeah I'm just glad I had my old one laying around lol.

Unfortunately now, I have to deal with Windows 7 being gay and not liking new motherboards.
