What is the intended use of the system? What is your budget? Where do you intend to buy? Do you plan to overclock?
Answering these will help us to help you.

In answer to your question, you don't need either card unless a, you wish to connect to a wireless network, or b, you work in the music business and need extremely good sound quality.

I intend to play games like: FarCry 3, Battlefield 3 and feed the beast on medium to high settings. I am not planning on overclocking. I have all the components on PcPartPicker and so far the total is:$886.83 with windows 7 home premium sp1 (oem) and i will spent up to $1000.
Hope this helped!

With a $1k budget, we can definitely make something that will run BF3 on high settings. Heck, if you don't want to OC, maxing it may well be possible. Give me a moment, I'll come up with an alternative build.

Edit: Here it is:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($82.55 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($55.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($67.19 @ Outlet PC)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 3GB Video Card ($399.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($65.98 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($17.98 @ Outlet PC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.94 @ Outlet PC)
Total: $1029.59
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Slightly over budget, but it will handle BF3 on high settings easily. Actually, based on the benchmarks I'm looking at, it may well max it at 1080p.
