Hi Guys,
I need help here! I bought this G.Skill 4x8GB (Model# F3-12800CL10Q-32GBZL) kit for my x79 build to go with ASUS P9X79 Deluxe motherboard. I configured it in quad-channel according to ASUS' direction and installed it in A1,B1,C1,D1 slots. But when in BIOS it was showing random numbers, by that I mean anything except full 32GB, I could see 24GB, 20GB and what not!
So then I tried to single out the culprit memory module by using only the D1 slot (to be run in single-channel mode) as per ASUS instruction and found out that although 3 of those sticks are getting recognized as 8GB modules as they should 1 was only being shown as 4GB! I tried swapping slots for each modules but every time when I put that stick in the total amount of memory was not showing 32GB, instead stupid numbers were shown!
Then for the time being I decided to go with triple-channel by populating A1,B1 and D1 slots as per ASUS and for some time it was correctly recognizing all 24GB (3x8GB) RAM. But after a couple of days may be the problem again started but it did not occur always! At times the computer now detects 20GB and not all 24GB, but that does not happen all the time, only sometimes do I find this to happen.
Then I tried to run Prime95 and Memtest86 to see if the system was stable!
But to my surprise I saw that as soon as I start Prime95 the system reboots by showing BSOD with different error messages. Guys, I do not remember all those error codes but I had searched the internet with those error codes and saw that most of them were referring to memory related issues as far as I remember. I remember one error though, it was page file error in non-page location or something close to that.
And when I tried to run Memtest86 it threw me an error at the very beginning itself! It showed some memory locations and said that copy error occurred as source and destination values did not match!
I'm also getting intermittent crashes when I'm playing CRYSIS 3 and the game stops and system shows BSOD!
Now I am totally at a loss to ascertain whether this is an issue with the RAM kit or the motherboard is faulty! This is driving me crazy guys! Please help. Please do let me know if you need any other specific information that might help you understand the issue. I bought this G.Skill memory kit in the USA from Newegg and now I'm in India. So may be RMA might be a pain in India for this kit
I am in dire need of your help, its so frustrating!!! SOS!
