I will be purchasing a new destop by the end of the month. Am really confused between intel i3 and amd fx 6300 as they have almost the same price. I will be using it for mild gaming, youtubing and little Microsoft office. Also I am buying an nvidia gtx 650 graphics card with it. Pls help...

Personally I would pick an AMD FX-6350. Same price as the 6300 right now on newegg, more power. Also if you are building a desktop I would highly suggest going with nothing lower than a GTX 650ti BOOST.

The i3 is marginally faster in poorly threaded applications (e.g. older games, some newer games) and uses much less power (this might translate into lower PSU requirements and marginally lower electricity bills). The FX-63** is significantly faster in well threaded applications (e.g. media transcoding, many newer games) and overclockable (though this makes its already high power consumption even higher).

If you do decide to go for the AMD, make sure you get the Win7 hotfix - http://www.anandtech.com/show/5448/the-bulldozer-schedu...

First off stop the fanboy stuff people.. 2nd the hot fixes that blibba mentioned for FX chips never really fixed much anyways and now are 100% completely UN NECESSARY. The scheduling issues in windows have been resolved and the on chip resource allocation has been improved as well. For gaming and multi tasking I would suggest the 6XXX over the i3 as the gaming performance is within a few FPS of each other but the FX will multi task a lot better than the i3. Also it overclocks which can boost the performance closer to that of an i5. I also agree that you should try and invest a bit more in to your graphics card. Hope this helps clear some things up for you.

I agree with everything CMI says. FX 6300 would be my suggestion as well. It will suit you fine for anything that you plan to do. Cheers.

Unless you close to 100% load the cpu the i3 will multitask much better. People get intel systems as they re far more responsive as here single core ipc means everything is fast. AMD cpus are like 7 year old intel systems in terms of multitasking fx series wise as the fx8350 is equivalent to a 2.4ghz core 2 duo single threaded and dual threaded tasks. In terms of cpu architecture intel i3 or i5 are a few years ahead and amd fx6300 piledriver cpus are on old platform, amd you could say are like similar to where intel where 5 years ago.

An i3 multitasks better than a 6300... Do you smoke crack, Seriously do you ? The crap you spout out of your mouth is so biased and delusional that I make it a point to personally contest you in every forum I see you in just to save some poor soul the misfortune or taking your "advice" An FX 8350 is comparable to a 2.4Ghz C2D ?? Show me one benchmarks because I can show you benchmark from every single reputable tech site tha proves otherwise. Stop trolling punk.

Well most of the time intel processors are significantly faster than many AMD processor. So I would go with the i3 unless you can get a 6 cored AMD instead

in single core performance the i3 is much better than the fx 6300
in multithreaded applications the fx is better than the i3 clearly but not by a huge amount

For most current and past games, the i3 will perform better. For all basic tasks, the i3 will perform better. Go with the i3
