So recently I did an upgrade from windows 7 to windows 8 pro. The update went smoothly but a few hours afterwards the PC started crashing at random times. The mouse would freeze, then one second later the display would crash and look something like this, although can be different depending on what is on the screen before the crash.

The computer sounds as if nothing has gone wrong, no fans spinning unusually fast or anything. It has been running windows 7 for almost 2 years now with no problems.

Error logs throw up an 'Event 41, Kernal-Power', but I assume that's where I've had to force shutdown by holding power button after the crash.

I've tried updating video/mobo drivers (nvidea geforce 6150SE nforce 430), but the crashes continued.

I'm currently running in safe mode, and there hasn't been a crash yet, although it can sometimes be hours in between crashes.

Thanks!

Hello,
Quote:
Scenario 2: The computer is shut down by pressing and holding the power button

This is how the error is logged, I am forced to hold the power button after the crash, so I don't believe the crash itself has anything to do with this error. Are you sure that the graphics card is the problem? I'm still in safe mode and there's been no problems for an hour now. What do you mean by 'check bios'?

Thanks for the reply
